daycare music lessonHere’s an easy activity for a daycare music lesson

Yesterday I wrote about what bells to buy and suggested some activities. I also indicated just some of the important things children can learn from playing instruments.   You’ll find that post here. Today I’m going to suggest some more songs that work well with bells so you can have fun and not headaches playing instruments with your children in your daycare music lesson.

We turned Eency Weency Spider (click here for a downloadable product) into a bell-playing game like this:

Eency Weency Spider climbed up the waterspout, (raise one hand above your head to make the straight waterspout, climb the bells up it with your other hand)

Down came the rain and washed poor Eency out, (flutter both hands down, shaking the bells)

Out came the sunshine and dried up all the rain, (raise arms and lower to the sides, shaking the bells)

So Eency Weency Spider climbed up the spout again. (repeat the first action)

You can hear the bells clearly in the backing track:  Eency Weency Spider Preview

Here’s the same song, this time with Mish Bown singing: Eency Weency Spider (voc) Preview

Our favourite song for introducing bells is Ride a Cock Horse (click here for a downloadable product) because it has the famous couplet:

Rings on her fingers and bells on her toes,

And she shall have music wherever she goes.

It goes without saying that we all put the semicircle of bells onto our shoes and even onto ankles if they fit!  Staff can enjoy an impromptu leg-raiser exercise and have a few laughs.   Children absolutely love doing this activity and will remember it months later.   Once again the bells feature on the backing track: Ride a Cock Horse Preview

And here’s the same song with Mish Bown singing: Ride a Cock Horse Vocal Preview

My third song suggestion is Oh We Can Play.  I’ve written before about using this song.  You’ll find that post here.

Here’s a link to more activities that concentrate on a single instrument.  Leave a reply below if you like this post and please remember to share it with friends and colleagues so they can enjoy this easy daycare music lesson too.
